History of Ken Libby's photographic career:

Learned photography basics from his father who was a professional photographer (pioneered underwater photography and did work for National Geographic and Time/Life books).

Ken was first the principle student yearbook photographer at Bellaire HS in Houston, Texas 1965-1966 and entered the Junior Scholastic Photo Contest. In all of Texas that year, there were 18 photo prize categories and Ken won 1st place in seven of those categories.

Came to UH in 1967 to study zoology to prepare for a possible career in marine zoology. Needed a part-time job and found one at Channel 11 (now PBSHawaii) as a student camera operator. Fell in love with the "moving picture" business. Left school for a job at KGMB- TV/Hawaii Production Center in 1970 and worked there for 15 years as the principle EFP camera/lighting person. During those years, HPC was the premiere production facility in the state.

Left HPC in 1985 to join a promising new company, McHale VideoFilm. During the ten years that Ken was Director of Photography at McHale, it was the premiere production facility in the state.
